Arrgh!
July 16, 2008
Big Gnome was selected by Camp Kemo to produce KEEPSAKES, the camp’s memory book for 2008. Camp Kemo is a weeklong summer camp for young cancer patients and their siblings. It’s a week of adventures, fun times, and lots of food.
This year’s theme was “Pirates of the Keemobean.” We’re so ready to get started. Why, you ask? Because it’ll be 40 pages (or so) of piratey-goodness.
While this week is about living life to the fullest, there is a raw, heart-wrenching reality to it. If you have a few minutes to watch, check out the “7 Day Cure,” produced by Rebecca Morrow, a photographer, former camper and cancer survivor.
Skate & Bake
November 9, 2007
And you can help. (Sorry, couldn’t resist…) If you’re in Charleston, SC, and you want to buy some gourmet baked goodies, watch awesome skateboarding demos – or skate yourself, enjoy live music, and a jump castle – yes a jump castle – (Oh, I am so there!), come out to Ackerman Park tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, to support South Carolina-based nonprofit POUR IT NOW.
POUR IT NOW is hosting a Skate & Bake, an event for the whole family. Earnings from the bake sale and raffle (Rumor has it there will be an Andre the Giant cake to raffle off), will go towards a fund to build a new, concrete skatepark for the Charleston community. POUR IT NOW is in talks with the City of Charleston who is helping to secure land and hopefully provide matching funds. Look for more info on the event in the City Pick section of this week’s Charleston City Paper, plus a feature in West Of.
Skateboarders outnumber other athletes, and while traditional sports fields sit empty, skateparks are bustling with activity. If your city doesn’t have a skatepark, your city is a skatepark. Don’t wait – pour the concrete now.
